The Dark and Dirty on Roaches

Seeing a cockroach skitter across your floor or your counter is enough to make you want to run out of your house and never come back. You’re not alone, everyone hates roaches, and for good reasons. Here’s the dark and dirty on roaches:

The Dark and Dirty on Roaches

Cockroaches carry diseases, can aggravate allergies, give off unpleasant odors, and can ruin your food. In extreme cases, cockroaches can even bite you. Unfortunately for us, our homes provide excellent conditions for cockroaches to thrive in. All they need is warmth, food, water, and shelter; all of which they can get from being in your home.

Dirty homes offer even more perfect conditions for cockroaches since they are attracted to food that has been left on the counter, dirty dishes in the sink, and crumbs that have been left on the floor. Along with those, cockroaches are attracted to moisture, such as from a leaky pipe under your kitchen sink. The worst thing about cockroaches is that they are around all year long, and even a clean house isn’t a guarantee that you won’t see one.

Signs of a Roach Problem

Since cockroaches are a nocturnal animal, you might not see them until you have a serious infestation. If you see one during the day, that means that they’ve been pushed out of the available hiding space by other roaches, and that means you have a real problem. Along with seeing a live roach, other signs of a roach infestation include:

●        Bodies of dead cockroaches

●        Droppings that resemble coffee grounds

●        Oval-shaped eggs casing

●        A musty odor in your home

If you’ve noticed these signs, you probably have an infestation and should call a professional exterminator.
